Leaks around the chimney traced and fixed with step flashing, counterflashing and sealed masonry joints, so ceilings stay dry.
A brown stain on the ceiling near the fireplace is a sign worth taking seriously. Water around a chimney can come from several places: the crown, the cap, the mortar joints, the flue and most often the flashing, which is the metal that connects the chimney to the roof. Finding the true source is half the work.
We trace leaks one step at a time, starting at the top. For flashing, we install step flashing along the sides and a saddle behind the chimney, with counterflashing set into the mortar joints so the metal overlaps and sheds water naturally. We seal the masonry as needed and leave the roof and chimney watertight.
We check the crown, joints, cap and flashing in turn and, where needed, water-test sections to see exactly where moisture gets in.
Layered metal pieces carry water down the roof slope. A saddle, sometimes called a cricket, diverts water around the back of a wide chimney.
Metal tucked into cut mortar joints overlaps the step flashing below. Surface caulk alone does not last, and tar patches only delay the problem.
Flashing meets shingles, so we protect your roof and coordinate with roofers where the repairs overlap.

You tell us about the chimney, fireplace or stove and what you have noticed, and we set a visit that fits your day.
We look closely at the chimney, inside and out, ask how you use it and take photos of anything of note.
We explain what is urgent, what can wait and what is optional, and give you a written scope and options.
We lay drop cloths, seal the firebox and protect the roof and landscaping before any work begins.
We sweep, repair or install with the right tools and materials, checking our work as we go.
We clean up, show you what we did, share tips and set a reminder for your next visit.
We check both. Many leaks near chimneys come from flashing, and others from the crown or mortar.
Caulk is temporary. Metal flashing set into the masonry lasts much longer.
Sometimes. We explain what is needed and coordinate with a roofer if shingles must be lifted.
Wind-driven rain finds small gaps. A careful check usually reveals them.
Most flashing repairs take a day or less.
