A new masonry fireplace and chimney built from the footing up, proportioned to draw well and finished to suit the house.
A masonry fireplace and chimney is a built-in, long-lasting feature. It adds warmth, atmosphere and value to a home, and when it is built well it draws smoothly for decades. Building one is a big job that rewards careful planning, from the footing to the cap.
We build new fireplaces and chimneys for additions, new homes and remodels. The work begins with design and clearances, then a footing sized to the load, a firebox of firebrick, a flue sized for the draft and a chimney stack finished in brick, stone or stucco. A proper crown, flashing and cap protect the top, and the surround inside matches the room.
The size of the opening, the depth of the firebox and the flue area all affect how well a fireplace draws. We follow proven proportions so smoke goes up and not into the room.
A masonry chimney weighs several tons. It needs its own footing and a structure tied correctly to the house.
Brick, stone or stucco, plain or corbelled, tall or short: we match the chimney to the house so it looks as if it was always there.
A sloped crown, solid flashing and a cap keep water, animals and debris out of the flue and the masonry.
