Gas Log Installation

Gas logs give you a fire at the flip of a switch, with no wood to carry and no ashes to clean, installed to the maker directions.

Gas logs are the easy way to enjoy a fire. They sit in your existing fireplace, light with a switch or a remote and burn with a steady, natural-looking flame. There is no wood to buy, split or carry, no ash to clean and little soot, and you can have a fire in a minute on a cold night.

Gas logs come in two main types. Vented logs give the most realistic flame and need the damper open or removed. Ventless logs burn more cleanly and give more heat but have their own rules and are not allowed everywhere. We explain the differences and the rules, set the logs in the pattern the maker intended and test the flame. The gas connection itself is made by qualified gas trades, and we coordinate that for you.

Vented or ventless

Vented logs look best but send most heat up the chimney. Ventless logs give more heat but release combustion products into the room and are limited in some areas. We explain which suits you.

Placement matters

Gas logs have a specific layout. Placing them wrongly causes sooty, yellow flames. We follow the maker instructions exactly.

Damper and safety

With vented logs, the damper must stay open or be clamped open. A closed damper can force fumes into the house. We set the damper and explain the rules.

Gas line and controls

A gas line, valve and key or remote control are needed. Gas connections are made by qualified gas trades, and we work with them.

Questions

Gas Log Installation FAQ

Are gas logs hot enough to heat a room?

Vented logs give mostly ambiance. Ventless logs give more heat. An insert gives the most.

Do gas logs need the damper open?

Vented logs do. Never close the damper on a burning vented gas log.

Can I switch back to wood?

Usually yes, though the burner must be removed. We can help.

Do gas logs need cleaning?

They need a yearly check and light cleaning.

Are ventless logs safe?

They are made to meet standards but are not permitted everywhere and need a working oxygen sensor. We explain the rules.
